Pregnancy Policy

The clinical and field areas are an exciting, challenging area in which to work. However, the pregnant student needs to be aware of the risks to the unborn child due to working in these areas. Environmental hazards include, but are not limited to, exposure to radiation and blood and airborne pathogens. Many clinical and field activities involve lifting and moving heavy equipment and patients.

Ogeechee Technical College does not assume any liability for any problems with pregnancy while the student is involved in lab, field, or clinical activities. Pregnant students are required to meet all competencies that are assigned during their clinical and field rotations.

Due to the potential safety risks associated with some aspects of the EMS daily duties, the program recognizes that pregnant students may choose not to subject themselves or their fetus to these risks and may wish to withdraw from the program during this time. If the student chooses this route, the student must follow in the Ogeechee Technical College Catalog as it relates to withdrawing from the program.

Clinical and field attire for the pregnant student will be black scrub pants, an untucked clinical shirt and black tennis shoes.
