Student Health Policy
It is required that all Paramedicine Technology and EMS Professions program students have a yearly physical examination prior to clinical or field rotations. Students are given the Health Sciences Clinical Requirements form and it must be completed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or physician’s assistant. The purpose of this health policy is to protect students and the patients they contact.
Students will be required to submit immunization records yearly that contain, at a minimum, the following:
1. 2-step PPD skin test. After completing the initial PPD test, the student can return within 1-3 weeks (7-21 days) for the second PPD test.
a. If the PPD skin test demonstrates a positive reaction, the student will need to have a chest x-ray performed or complete the QuantiFERON-TB Fold or T-SPOT in lieu of the chest x-ray.
2. MMR vaccination
3. Tetanus Tdap (every 10 years)
4. Hepatitis B Vaccination (3-shot series)
5. Hepatitis B titer
a. If the student does not test positive for the antibody, they will be required to complete the Hepatitis B series again and have an additional titer completed.
6. Varicella vaccination (2 shot series) or history of having Chicken Pox (need month and year)
7. Varicella titer
a. If the student does not test positive for the antibody, he/she will be required to complete the varicella series again and have an additional titer completed.
8. Influenza vaccination (Yearly)
Any condition that is deemed by the faculty to jeopardize the quality of patient care or the safety of patients will be discussed with the student and appropriate action will be taken. Students will not be allowed to attend clinical or field sites without complete immunization requirements.
