Licensing Requirements

After the students have completed their educational requirements for licensure, there are additional obligations that must be met. Candidates for licensure must successfully complete all of the following:

  • pass the National Board Exam,
  • pass the state board exam
  • complete an apprenticeship at a licensed funeral home.

For licensing purposes, all students are strongly encouraged to visit:

The website of the Georgia Funeral Service Board at https://sos.ga.gov/georgia-state-board-funeral-service. There you will find links on the state board exam, online services, laws, policies, rules and a FAQ section. These links should provide answers to any and all questions that a potential candidate for state licensure might have.

The Website of the International Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards at https://theconferenceonline.org/. There you will find links on the National Board Exam, study guides, online services, eligibility verifications, and an online portal to register for the NBE. These links should provide answers to any and all questions that a potential candidate for national licensure might have.
