The two-year associate-level nursing program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare students for positions in the nursing profession. The curriculum is designed to produce highly-trained, technically advanced, competent, and caring individuals who are prepared to practice professional nursing in a variety of health care settings. The purpose of the program is to provide the learner with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to practice competently and safely as a beginning nurse generalist in a variety of acute and long-term care settings. The nurse is viewed as a caring, holistic person who possesses critical thinking/problem-solving skills, integrity, accountability, a theoretical knowledge base, refined psychomotor skills, and a commitment to life-long learning. Program graduates receive an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree. Graduates are then eligible to apply and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of NCLEX-RN and licensure by the Georgia Board of Nursing, graduates are employable as registered nurses in a variety of settings.
Employment Opportunities
Registered Nurses (RNs) work to promote good health and prevent illness. They educate patients and the public about various medical conditions; treat patients and help in their rehabilitation; and provide advice and emotional support to patients' families. RNs use considerable judgment in providing a wide variety of services. Many registered nurses are general-duty nurses who focus on the overall care of patients. They administer medications under the supervision of doctors and keep records of symptoms and progress. General-duty nurses also supervise licensed practical nurses (LPNs) and nursing aides.

Admissions Requirements for the Program Courses (RNSG):
- Must submit a Letter of Interest electronically prior to admission deadline
- Must attend an Associate of Science in Nursing Competitive Admissions Workshop
- Must be 18 years of age prior to the first day of the program classes.
- Must have taken the HESI aptitude exam at Ogeechee Technical College within the last 5 years and achieved a cumulative score of 75% or higher.
- A student will be allowed six (6) testing attempts on the HESI. The exams are given several times each semester and attempts can be scheduled 30 calendar days apart.
- HESI scores from other schools will not be accepted.
- Must complete required courses with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least a 2.5. Coursework older than 5 years included in the GPA calculation. However, a student will not be able to choose specific coursework to include and exclude if a waiver is submitted.)
- Students must complete all required courses with a "C" or better.
- Transfer credits will be used in GPA calculation
Selection Process:
A specific number of admission slots is allotted for each competitive admission program, based on the availability of clinical sites and faculty. Students will be selected for available slots using the following criteria:
- A total score is calculated based on HESI scores, GPA for required prerequisite coursework, and whether or not the applicant has an active and unencumbered LPN license. Students are selected based on total score ranking.
- The GPA for prerequisite courses only will be weighted at 40/100 of the total score.
- The HESI exam score will be weighted at 55/100 of the total score.
- Applicants with an active and unencumbered LPN license will be awarded 5/100.
- If a tie exists, the highest score on the HESI exam will determine ranking.
- If a tie continues to exist, the highest GPA on prerequisite coursework will determine ranking.

Clinical clearance and placement is a requirement to begin and complete the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program.

Students may be accepted into a clinical rotation even with a criminal background. Completion of the Nursing Program does not guarantee the student will be eligible to test for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) or receive a nursing license. If the student has a criminal background, it is the student’s responsibility to research their own eligibility for licensure. If a student receives a violation of criminal activity during the course of the program, the clinical facility has the right to request an updated background check. Each clinical facility has the right to suspend privileges at any time during the duration of the program.
