RNSG 1608 Mental Health Nursing

Mental Health Nursing course is designed to prepare the student to care for individuals with alterations in their mental

health, while utilizing nursing judgment. Topics will include, but are not limited to anxiety, depression, addiction,

schizophrenia, and dementia. Psychopharmacology, behavioral and cognitive therapies, and other treatment modalities

will be integrated throughout the course.The course integrates the concepts of professional identity, teamwork and

collaboration, quality and safety, evidenced-based practice, informatics, and health teaching and health promotion as

they relate to the care of clients with alterations to their mental health.Teaching and learning principles will be

incorporated to all aspects of care, including the biophysical, psychosocial, spiritual and cultural aspects. Students will

care for patients from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds with mental health alterations in a variety of acute care

and community settings.
