RNSG 1609 Transition to Professional Nursing

The intent of this course is to transition the student into the role of member of the profession focusing on management

and leadership competencies, while fostering independence and proficiency as a provider and manager of care.

Classroom content will explore current healthcare trends emphasizing the importance of professional growth,

accountability, and responsibility within the profession. The student also gains an understanding of health care policy and

its impact on health care. The course will include instruction on the transition from education to practice. Topics covered:

Role transition to build clinical judgment and decision-making skills, personal management and self-care strategies ,

employment opportunities, resume writing, interviewing tips, effective communication skills within the profession, conflict

management , cultural and spiritual awareness, quality patient care, delegation in the clinical setting, ethical and legal

issues, and using evidence based practice in nursing.
