Practicum Experience Preceptorship

Practicum is an optional clinical experience. The practicum experience is based on faculty discretion and the availability of practicum mentor participants and clinical sites. Students may not request their own practicum mentor. Students may not search for or contact a potential practicum mentor. Doing so is considered unprofessional, as it is the Nursing Clinical Coordinator’s or PN faculty’s responsibility to maintain contracts and approval of practicum mentors with the facilities and the Georgia Board of Nursing. Students will be allowed to voice their desire to be mentored in certain areas and the faculty will consider placing students accordingly.

Placements are decided on the following: attendance, grades, professionalism, personality congruency, facility requests, and personal desires of the student and of the clinical site. Students should follow the explicit rules and instructions for clinical in their syllabus for the Adult Health Nursing IV course.
