Clinical Placement Process
Clinical placements are an essential component of the Ogeechee Technical College Nursing Program and are carefully coordinated to ensure that students receive diverse, high-quality clinical learning experiences. The placement process is designed to meet course learning outcomes, comply with clinical agency requirements, and ensure appropriate supervision and support for all students.
Assignment of Clinical Sites
Clinical placements are determined by the Nursing Program faculty and the Clinical Coordinator based on course requirements, student learning needs, and availability at affiliated clinical sites. Students are not permitted to choose or request specific clinical sites. Efforts are made to provide equitable access to varied clinical experiences across the program.
Request to Transfer Clinical Sites
Students are not allowed to change or request transfers to alternate clinical sites once placements have been assigned. Clinical agencies require advance notice to coordinate computer access, security clearance, badge creation, orientation materials, and more. Any change in assignment causes delays in this process, negatively impacting the student’s readiness and ability to participate fully in clinical activities. Additionally, inappropriate or last-minute changes may jeopardize the program’s partnership with clinical agencies, potentially limiting opportunities for future students.
Exceptions to this policy will only be considered in extreme and documented circumstances, and require approval from the Program Director.
