Clinical Compliance
Nursing students are expected to perform the essential functions required of a licensed nurse, consistent with the responsibilities defined by the Georgia Nurse Practice Act. This includes possessing sufficient cognitive, sensory, and psychomotor abilities to deliver safe and effective patient care.
“A student must be able to practice nursing as it is defined in the law. They must have adequate cognitive, sensory, and psychomotor functioning to effectively implement nursing care.”
Students with sensory, motor-skill, or physical strength limitations must demonstrate the ability to meet required performance standards, with the use of reasonable accommodations or adaptive equipment, as applicable.
Nursing is a physically and emotionally demanding profession. Therefore, students must be able to:
- Endure physically taxing activities (e.g., extended standing, lifting, transferring patients)
- Manage high-stress situations
- Maintain emotional composure and professionalism under pressure
To ensure the safety of patients, peers, and faculty—as well as to meet clinical agency requirements—all students must complete and maintain the following:
- CPR Certification: Completion of an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) course for healthcare providers is required. Certification must be current, submitted, and approved by the Program Director prior to the start of classes. If CPR certification expires at any point during the program, it must be renewed immediately to remain in compliance.

- Background Check
- 100% Compliance with Georgia Immunization Requirements for Healthcare Personnel
- Annual Physical Examination
- Proof of Current Personal Health Insurance Coverage
It is the student’s responsibility to maintain compliance with all health and safety requirements throughout their enrollment in the Ogeechee Technical College Nursing Program and up to graduation. Failure to maintain up-to-date documentation may result in loss of clinical eligibility or program dismissal.
