TCSG Statement on High Stakes Testing
High Stakes Statement
The Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) shall require that all health programs employ evaluation methods that are comprehensive, evidence-informed, and aligned with SACSCOC standards to ensure student development, professional readiness, and patient safety. Standardized or high-stakes assessments may be included within a broader evaluation framework; however, they should not serve as the sole determinant of student progression or graduation. This requirement reflects the best educational practices and affirms TCSG’s commitment to the highest standards of student achievement and program quality.
Rationale
This policy is established in response to evolving standards set forth by national programmatic accrediting bodies such as the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and other health-related accreditors. These organizations emphasize that student evaluation must be holistic, evidence-informed, and designed to foster competency development rather than relying solely on high-stakes testing. By adopting this approach, TCSG ensures consistency across its colleges, alignment with accrediting expectations, and the promotion of best practices that safeguard both student success and patient safety.
Commitment
This policy underscores TCSG’s commitment to high-quality health education, student readiness for professional practice, and alignment with national accreditation standards.
