Examination and Remediation Policy

HESI Examination and Remediation Policy (Active until May 2026 for current student cohort)
The Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program at Ogeechee Technical College utilizes HESI exams throughout the curriculum to assess students’ progress, identify strengths and weaknesses, and guide remediation. These exams are used as a formative evaluation tool and are designed to support student readiness for the NCLEX-RN.

Course-Level HESI Exams
In each of the core nursing courses, students are administered a corresponding HESI exam to assess course-related content mastery.
- Students are provided two (2) attempts per HESI exam.
- The highest score of the two attempts is recorded in the course gradebook.
- Students are not required to achieve a minimum score to pass the course.
- All students must complete HESI remediation using the assigned HESI specialty packets and case studies regardless of their score.
- Remediation must be completed by the designated due date set by course faculty in order to be eligible for the second attempt (if applicable).

Senior Seminar and NCLEX Preparation – HESI Exit Exam (RNSG 1610)
To support NCLEX readiness, students will complete the HESI RN Exit Exam during the final course of the program (RNSG 1610: Senior Seminar and NCLEX Prep).
- Students are allowed up to four (4) attempts to take the HESI Exit Exam.
- The highest score achieved across the four attempts will be recorded in the gradebook.
- If a student does not score an 850 or higher, they are required to continue their attempts until this score is achieved.
- If this score is not achieved by the last attempt, the highest score will be placed in the gradebook.

Remediation Requirements for Exit Exam
- All students must complete HESI remediation following the first attempt using individualized resources provided by the testing platform, including the provided essential packets and case studies.
- If a score of 850 or higher is not achieved, students must complete additional remediation prior to each subsequent attempt.
- Failure to complete remediation by the assigned deadlines will result in ineligibility to retest.
