Artificial Intelligence Policy
The use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools—such as ChatGPT, GrammarlyGO, and other generative AI platforms—is an evolving area in education and professional practice. While these tools can support learning, the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) Program at Ogeechee Technical College upholds the highest standards of academic integrity, professional accountability, and critical thinking. Therefore, students must use AI responsibly and ethically.
Permissible Use
AI tools may be used for study support, idea generation, or grammar assistance when completing assignments outside of clinical or graded work, provided the student critically reviews and modifies the output to ensure accuracy and originality.
AI use may be allowed on certain assignments only with explicit permission from the instructor. When permitted, students must disclose the AI tool used and how it contributed to the assignment.
Students are expected to maintain professional judgment and not rely solely on AI-generated content in any academic or clinical decision-making.
Prohibited Use
Submitting AI-generated responses or content as one’s own original work on graded assignments, care plans, documentation, clinical reflections, discussion posts, or exams is considered a violation of academic integrity.
Using AI tools to generate patient care decisions, assessments, or documentation in clinical settings or simulations is strictly prohibited.
Students may not use AI to bypass learning, critical thinking, or competency-based requirements of the nursing program.
Consequences of Misuse
Unauthorized or inappropriate use of AI may result in disciplinary action in accordance with the Ogeechee Technical College Academic Integrity Policy and ASN program standards. Consequences may include:
- Receiving a failing grade on the assignment
- Failing the course
- Dismissal from the nursing program
Student Responsibility
Students are responsible for understanding this policy and seeking clarification from faculty if unsure about appropriate AI use. The ASN program encourages the development of critical reasoning and clinical judgment, which cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence.
